Data protection is the process of protecting sensitive information from damage, loss, or corruption. As the amount of data being created and stored has increased at an unprecedented rate, making data protection increasingly important.

It was developed to control how personal or customer information is used by organisations or government bodies. It protects people and lays down rules about how data about people can be used. The DPA also applies to information or data stored on a computer or an organised paper filing system about living people.

Data security refers to protecting your data against unauthorized access or use that could result in exposure, deletion, or corruption of that data. An example of data security would be using encryption to prevent hackers from using your data if it's breached.

Data protection is the process of safeguarding important data from corruption, compromise or loss and providing the capability to restore the data to a functional state should something happen to render the data inaccessible or unusable.

A comprehensive approach to data protection that includes encryption, backup and disaster recovery planning, access control, network security, and physical security can help ensure the security and confidentiality of sensitive information.
